Kiely Ward is a London-based director and producer working across film, brand and audio, whose practice operates through situated, observational inquiry. Her work examines how individuals and communities inhabit constructed worlds, from hospitals and miniature railways to fishing societies and domestic interiors, attending to the psychogeographies that shape collective experience. She is increasingly extending her practice into public-facing and site-responsive formats, exploring how moving image, conversation and event can convene new cultural contexts. Across media, her work traces environments as they organise perception of everyday life.

Documentary Film, Director
Copenhagen Fields

2026-24

Employing the cinéma vérité style, Copenhagen Fields aims to unpack what drives one to miniaturism - be it control, calm, or community. In and amongst societal pressures, it explores the escapism adults experience by trading their familiar urban infrastructure for a tiny version of that same commuter's world - a performance of civilisation. Largely, the project follows London’s Model Railway Club in King’s Cross, the world’s oldest railway club.

The Compleat Angler

2023-21
The Compleat Angler is an institutional portrait of the London fishing scene following various anglers as they practise this most ancient pastime in a sprawling modern metropolis. It zeros in on their personal lives, their hopes, their fears and their relationship to the city, as well the organising and collective action of the Hampstead and Highgate Anglers Society (the HAHAS). It's an exploration of the character and geography of London as navigated by the participants of this popular but mysterious sport.

Children of Covid

2021

Children of Covid
chronicles the daily life of four sets of siblings around South England. The film was made in conjunction with Bex Day’s photographic series depicting the effects of lockdown on children’s development. In watching them utilise their immediate surroundings, the film uncovers how youthful and imaginative thinking helped each child to cope with coronavirus. It captures the sacred dynamic between siblings and is a testament to children’s intrinsic resilience.
